The Story of DFW Mom Society

Whether you’re new to town or just need a conversation with another mom, DFW Mom Society is here - offering real connection through meet-ups, events, and playdates. We exist to provide a safe place for moms and their little ones to meet each other. Motherhood can be lonely, but it doesn't have to be.

How We Got Here

In October 2024, Abby Rinzel, a Mansfield mom, set out to create a welcoming, low-pressure way for moms in her neighborhood to connect. At the time, the group was originally called Mansfield Mom Walk, a name that reflected its early focus on neighborhood walks in Mansfield. Abby organized the very first walk on October 8th, bringing together five moms for a casual stroll around the neighborhood that ended at a playground. What started as a small idea quickly gained traction.

To spread the word, Abby reached out to local HOAs and posted in neighborhood Facebook groups, inviting more moms to join the weekly neighborhood walks. As more women began attending, Mansfield Mom Walk quickly became more than just a local walking group. Moms started building friendships, planning playdates, and connecting outside of the walks. As winter approached and outdoor walks became too chilly, the group moved indoors to FieldHouse USA. This shift marked a major turning point, as attendance grew rapidly and highlighted the strong need for community and connection among moms across the area.

Inspired by the group’s growth, Abby partnered with her friend Allison Keng, who shared her passion for creating supportive spaces for moms. Together, they recognized that the group had expanded far beyond Mansfield. What began as Mansfield Mom Walk was now attracting moms from surrounding cities and hosting not only walks, but also playdates, family meetups, and larger community events throughout the DFW area. Because of this growth, they decided to rename the organization DFW Mom Society to better reflect the broader community they were serving and the variety of events they were offering.

Together, Abby and Allison formally renamed Mansfied Mom Walk to DFW Mom Society, expanding their mission to foster community among moms and their young children throughout the Metroplex. The name change from Mansfield Mom Walk to DFW Mom Society represented the incredible evolution of the group—from a small neighborhood walking club into a thriving regional nonprofit that connects families across multiple surrounding cities. The group began meeting at local parks to accommodate more moms, children, and activities. With significant support from friend and advocate Alisha Thomas, DFW Mom Society became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, enabling the organization to expand its impact through events, partnerships, and resources like its website.
Today, DFW Mom Society continues to host walks, playdates, and events across the DFW area, creating opportunities for moms to build meaningful friendships and support systems. The most rewarding outcome for Abby and Allison has been watching moms exchange contact information, form lasting friendships, and continue meeting outside of organized events. For them, success is found in these genuine connections and the sense of belonging the community creates.

Recognizing the challenges of postpartum depression and having experienced it themselves, Abby and Allison understand the transformative power of community. What started as Mansfield Mom Walk has grown into DFW Mom Society—a vibrant and supportive nonprofit where moms from Mansfield and surrounding cities can find encouragement, lasting friendships, and fun memories with their children.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I really want to come but I’m so anxious about meeting new moms!

We understand and we’re here for you whenever you’re ready! Taking that first step can feel big, but we encourage you to pack some snacks, bring your little one, and come out to meet us. If naps get a bit off-schedule, don’t stress- things will fall back into place. If you’re worried about not knowing anyone, we’d love to introduce you to another mom to help you feel more connected.

  • Is it free?

It is our goal to keep the majority of our gatherings free to the moms attending. We are a non-profit and partner with carefully selected sponsors, which helps support our group. Sometimes we will host paid events to raise money for our group, but the majority of our events are free.

  • Do you walk at every event?

No. We host lots of play dates and meetups in addition to our walks. In the Summer, most of our meetups are indoors and don’t involve any walking. We have lots of amazing kid-focused sponsors that will often host us! When we do walk, we always end with time on the playground. It’s a misconception that we are a workout group. We started as a neighborhood walk but have evolved to be a community focused mom’s group.

  • What is the age group and do I have to bring my kids?

Most of our children are 0-5 years old. We do have a few moms that attend who homeschool older children. If your child is in school, you are still welcome to come attend!

  • Do I have to live in the area local to the event to come?

No, we have mamas who drive from all over the Metroplex to our larger events. Come join us!

  • My little one is autistic, are there any mamas coming that have special needs kids?

Yes, we do have mamas that regularly attend with littles who are neurodivergent.

  • Do you have events for working moms?

We currently host Saturday events once every other month. For most of our moms, meeting on Fridays has been the easiest day to schedule. Weekends are very busy everywhere and it’s not currently possible for us to personally host events every weekend. As our group continues to grow and evolve, we will continually reevaluate Saturday events. Our goal is to include as many moms as possible.

  • Can dads come?

We kindly ask moms to attend our gatherings solo to help foster connection with other moms. Our group is designed to create a special space for moms to bond and build friendships. When partners attend, it makes it significantly harder to mingle. We ask that you come on your own to fully enjoy the mommy-focused vibe! We periodically host events on Saturdays and partners are welcome to come to those.

  • Is this a workout group?

No, we are not a workout group. DFW Mom Society focuses on connecting moms through play dates and outdoor meetups (weather permitting). Our emphasis is on conversation and community. When we do walk, it’s short (10–20 minutes) and always followed by a kid-friendly activity, such as a playground visit or another fun event. Our original name, Mansfield Mom Walk, reflected our origins as a neighborhood walking group, but we’ve since evolved to prioritize social connection.

  • I was attending Mansfield Mom Walk events. Is this a different group?

Mansfield Mom Walk is now DFW Mom Society. This new name change reflects our tremendous growth and connections outside of just Mansfield. Our mission and events are the same! Just a new name 🙂
